Travis started tattooing at the tender age of 14, much to his father’s dismay. Travis had always been artistic, loved to draw, and wanted to figure out a way to capitalize on it. So, he did, illegally, until he got his first apprenticeship at a shop in California and a year later became a licensed tattoo artist. Back then, he was not on the best path in life, to put it mildly, so he moved to Louisiana for another fresh start, closer to the place he knew as home. His father helped to put him to work in the plants making good money welding, but his heart and soul were in his art.
After starting his family, he expressed his desire to return to tattooing. With some reluctance from his wife, he began tattooing on friends and family, but she quickly realized that he had a talent. What started as word-of-mouth promptly spread. When the opportunity came where they could convert their mother-in-law’s suite into a private licensed tattoo studio, they jumped on the chance.
Today, business is booming, and Travis is happy to be able to live out his passion, and Courtney is pleased to be able to split her time between family and running the business of the tattoo studio.
So Why Watson?
Watson is a unique community. While it is considered by many to be a bedroom community of Baton Rouge, it has its sense of identity and community. It’s this community that Travis feels makes it the perfect place to open his tattoo shop.
“I love the small-town feel of Watson. Everyone seems to know each other, and there’s a sense of community here. I felt like it would be the perfect place to open my shop and become a part of the community. Watson is also centrally located, making it easy for customers to get to Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and even Mississippi. I’ve had people drive down from Jackson, MS, to get tattooed by me. I think the location is ideal for a shop like mine.”
